Your battery will last longer, the flashlight will emit more light and it will increase the 'focus-ability' of the beam. Only benefits when compared to the standard light bulb.

The LED's are designed for 4,5~4,8 Volt which means that the flashlight may only run on 3 normal 1,5 Volt batteries or 4 rechargeable batteries of 1,2 Volt. Therefore some bigger maglites will have to use Dummys.
